KEDIRI — When copra is pressed into oil, what remains is not waste. The press cake, known as coconut expeller or copra meal, is an important raw material for the animal-feed industry. Together with other biomass products, these by-products add economic value to the coconut supply chain.
Coconut expeller for feed
Coconut expeller contains the protein and fibre needed in feed formulations. The specification of the coconut expeller supplied by CV ECHOTECH includes:
- Protein: 18% – 22%
- Fat/oil: 8% – 12%
- Moisture: max. 10%
- Aflatoxin: max. 20 – 50 ppb
Aflatoxin is a critical parameter because it relates to feed safety and animal health. Dry storage and good ventilation help maintain expeller quality.
Coconut pellets: denser and more efficient
Expeller meal can be processed into solid cylindrical pellets. With a minimum density of 600 kg/m³ and a maximum moisture of 8%, pellets are more efficient to store, transport and handle in bulk. Coconut pellets can be used as a feed ingredient or as biomass fuel.
Biomass for renewable energy
Alongside coconut-derived products, CV ECHOTECH also supplies Palm Kernel Shell (PKS), a biomass fuel with a calorific value of 4,000 – 4,500 kcal/kg. PKS is widely used in industrial boilers, biomass power plants and co-firing.
Supporting a circular economy
Using by-products helps industry reduce waste and maximise the value of every raw material. For buyers, these products offer alternative feed and energy options with clear quality parameters that can be agreed from the start of the transaction.
